Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often marked by bleakness, this show's earnestness struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this charming family go about their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
