Carlos Alcaraz and Juan Carlos Ferrero

The Spanish champion claimed each of his six major titles guided by his coach's mentorship, his most recent coming at the recent US Open.

Six-times Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz has ended his partnership with his mentor Juan Carlos Ferrero in a unexpected decision.

The 22-year-old Spaniard, has worked with his fellow Spaniard since he was a teenager, but announced on Wednesday that the team have "mutually agreed to part ways" before the upcoming season.

Neither Alcaraz nor Ferrero has provided a cause for the split.

The top-ranked player Alcaraz has not yet indicated if he intends to find a successor for Ferrero.

"I am grateful for turning childhood dreams into realities," Alcaraz said in a statement.

"Our journey began this journey when I was just a child, and throughout all this time you've accompanied me on an extraordinary journey, on and off the court.

"It has been a pleasure to experience every step of it so much with you."

The 45-year-old Ferrero, is a one-time world number one. He developed Alcaraz's talent at his academy near Murcia before leading him to each of his six Grand Slam titles.
