A man has been indicted with attempted murder in connection with the shooting that injured New York Jets NFL player Kris Boyd.
Accused Individual Identified and Taken Into Custody
The accused is Frederick Green, age 20. He was on Monday, facing attempted murder.
Details of the Mid-November Shooting
The traumatic incident happened in the early hours of 16 November, near a popular New York City restaurant. Law enforcement characterized the event as a dispute with a unknown individuals.
Boyd, age 29, was accompanied by teammates and a third companion in a central part of New York City when the argument began.
The situation turned into a altercation, during which it is alleged Green shot Boyd two times in the stomach.
Critical Wounds and Hospitalization
The gunshot hit Boyd's pulmonary organ and became embedded in his pulmonary artery. He was taken to the hospital in grave condition but was later discharged.
Reports indicate he has since visited his teammates at a team training location.
Investigation and Apprehension in Another City
Security footage from the area allegedly captured Green fleeing and getting into a car operated by someone else.
Law enforcement apprehended Green on 8 December in a city approximately 580km away, where he was reportedly hiding at his partner's residence.
A law enforcement statement noted that "a suspect" had been arrested.
When a team surrounded the building, the individual was seen "looking out the apartment window looking for an way out but went back in after noticing the authorities," the statement noted.
The stand-off concluded soon after, when the man exited the apartment with his hands in the air.
The accused had "significantly changed his appearance probably to not be recognized," law enforcement stated further.
The Player's Professional History
Prior to joining the Jets earlier this year, Boyd had stints with the and Minnesota Vikings over multiple seasons in the league.
The defensive player had been on injured reserve for the Jets after sustaining a shoulder injury during team practice in August.
